BIO-SKETCH

Ron works as an assistant professor at the Alzheimer Centre Limburg at Maastricht University and is affiliated to the Karolinska Institutet. His background is in epidemiology and health-economic evaluation in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Ron performs research in the area of (early) cost-effectiveness of a variety of interventions for AD and dementia (prevention, care, diagnostics, drug treatment), and natural AD disease progression. He is part of the International Pharmaco-Economic collaboration on Alzheimer’s Disease (www.ipecad.org). His work has been funded by national and international funding schemes (among which ZonMw, H2020, JPND and IMI). On an occasional basis, he provides advisory for pharmaceutical organizations.

CURRENT POSITION

Assistant professor at Maastricht University (1 FTE) and affiliated to the Karolinska Institutet. Various research projects:

  • QoLEAD (NWO, NL): Quality of Life by use of Enabling AI in Dementia (2022 – 2026).
  • BIRDNL (ZonMw, NL): Nederlands Dementie Preventie Initiatief (Dutch Dementia Prevention Initiative (2022-2026).
  • NDPI (ZonMw, NL): knowledge on risk and protective factors for dementia (2022 – 2026).
  • Cost-effectiveness Partner in Balance (ZonMw, NL): trial-based cost-effectiveness study on Partner in Balance intervention to support informal caregivers of dementia (2021-2025).
  • PRODEMOS (H2020, EU): work package on health-economics for primary dementia prevention (2018-2023).
  • IPECAD open-source modelling (Alzheimer Nederland Fellowship): collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Exeter University to develop open-source model within the IPECAD open-source modelling group (see international activities) (2017 – 2019).
  • RECAGE (H2020, EU): leading the work package on health-economics (2018 – 2023).

Member of the IPECAD working group to develop an open-source modelling framework for AD and organize workshop model cross-comparison.
