About
Jan Steyaert works at the Flemish Expertise Centre on Dementia, where his function is that of scientific officer. He was trained as a sociologist at university of Antwerp, where he is guest professor within the master of social work (department of sociology).
His work involves following what comes out of worldwide research and translating that to Flemish dementia care, as well as gathering the research needs in dementia care and translating those to the Belgian research community as a research agenda.
The Flemish Expertise Centre on Dementia is partner organization of and funded by the Flemish government, which gives us close links to policy. On the other hand, we annually provide training and advice to several hundred practitioners, which gives us close links to daily practice of dementia care. Each staff member of our organization also participates in dementia care some days each year to strengthen our connection with practice.
Main topics of Jan Steyaert’s work are epidemiology, prevention and risk reduction, family caregiving as well as end-of-life care. He is active member of Interdem (https://interdem.org/).
