Dr. Hort was elected chairman of Section on cognitive neurology of the Czech Neurological Society (2005-2018) and currently is a vice-chair of this body. Dr. Hort served also as a co-chair of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Scientist Panel Dementia and Cognitive Neurology (2015-2019). Dr. Hort participated in EAN task forces on the use of cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers and neuropsychological tests across of Europe. Dr. Hort authorized European guidelines on Alzheimer disease and participated in EAN guidelines on non-Alzheimer dementias and combination therapy for Alzheimer disease. Dr. Hort has been honored to become Courtesy Professor at University of South Florida, School of Aging Studies in 2019. Dr. Hort is an expert in translational research and has introduced a novel method of a human variant of the Morris Water Maze (hMWM) into AD research. Dr. Hort has published several papers indicating that spatial navigation testing can help in the identification of early signs of mild cognitive impairment and AD. Spatial navigation is believed to be impaired early in the course of the disease and proposed tests can indicate similarities with advanced disease by assessment of this distinguished cognitive domain. Furthermore, using this procedure may allow for a direct comparison of animal and human data with the potential to improve preventive and disease modifying clinical trials, as majority of substances are tested in animals by using of Morris Water Maze, deeming results with tests other than those mimicking the Morris Water Maze more difficult to interpret
Dr. Hort has participated in numerous drug development projects as a consultant and principal investigator as well. He has served as a reviewer for several peer reviewed journals and international grant agencies. In 2011 he founded Czech Alzheimer fund, which sponsored many research projects and scholarships for young scientists. Dr. Hort has been active in application of new technologies in the dementia field including Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, telemedicine and blockchain and has served as an advisor for several start-up companies in the field.
