About
René Thyrian is member of the board of the German Alzheimer Society (Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft). He is a trained psychologist, holds a PHD in epidemiology and social medicine and has been appointed as professor for interventional health care research at the university of Greifswald, Germany. He has been working in addiction and behavioral research in Germany and the USA. Since 2010, he is conducting research on dementia care with the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), leading a small research group.
His scientific focus (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6889-693X) is on prevention, early/ timely identification, participation, primary care, collaborative care, inequalities, participatpory research, interventions and policy.
On a European level he is involved with the INTERDEM-group and the North Sea Dementia Group working on knowledge transfer and networking. He participated in the development of the German National Dementia Strategy and is actively involved in implementing it.
In his spare time he loves to travel with his wife and/ or his two sons, do sports, sing in a choir, motorbike or just relax.
Jochen René Thyrian was elected to the Alzheimer Europe Board in October 2022 and re-elected in June 2024.
