Study in mice shows potential sex differences in responses to tau pathology

Monday 23 December 2019

On 23 December, researchers from the USA published an article on sex-specific responses to tau pathology that are mediated by microglial microRNAs in the journal nature neuroscience. The new study reports that male and female microglia expressed different sets of microRNAs at baseline and in response to tau pathology (which has been previously linked to Alzheimer’s disease). In addition, the researchers found that removal of microRNAs, exacerbated tau aggregates in male but not in female tauopathy mice.
