The Commission consults civil society on future EU Health Strategy
Wednesday 15 November 2006
The Commission launched a discussion document proposing a new EU Health Strategy, aiming at improving health in the EU. The strategy will set broad objectives for the next decade. A mid-term review will take place at 5 years.
The Commissions strategy will be overarching and is intended to set out a long-term policy agenda on a number of key issues, such as health inequalities, global health, ageing, or cross border issues.
Finally, the strategy will aim to trigger concrete changes to help improve health across the EU. A strong focus will be put on defining implementation mechanisms and partnerships between the EU, its Member States and stakeholders.
Health will be mainstreamed in other community policies.
The strategy is open for consultation. Stakeholders are invited to comment on the Commissions strategy document by 12 February 2007.
