Monday 01 January 2007
Since January 1, the EP has 53 new MEPs from Bulgaria (18) and Romania (35). The majority of the new MEPs have joined the rank of the ALDE (Liberals), while the others joined the EPP and the PES. 6 of the new MEPs joined the newly created political group.
A new political group, Identity, Tradition, Sovereignty (ITS) was created in the European Parliament by far-right parties and an independent MEP. The leader is Bruno Gollnisch (France, National Front).
20 MEPs from 6 countries are needed to form a new party. The group is now eligible for public funding and representation in the Committees.
