Gunhild Waldemar, MD, DMSc. and FEAN, is professor of neurology and chair of the Danish Dementia Research Centre at Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen. She achieved a Doctor of Medicine degree at University of Copenhagen in 1996 with a thesis on brain imaging with SPECT in normal aging and dementia. In 1995 she established the first Danish multidisciplinary memory clinic, and in 2007 the Danish Dementia Research Centre with nationwide research, educational and networking activities.  Her main research interests are clinical and epidemiological studies in dementia. Prof. Waldemar serves as a member of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Panel of Alzheimer’s Disease International, and the Expert Advisory Panel of Alzheimer Europe. She was one of the leading forces in the establishment of the new European Academy of Neurology (EAN) in 2014. Since 2011 she has served on the board of directors of the Lundbeck Foundation.  Prof Waldemar has received several national and international awards for her research, including the Nordic Medicine prize and the 2020 WHO prize for elderly research.
