KEADY John (United Kingdom)

Professor John Keady is a registered mental health nurse and completed his part-time PhD in dementia studies in 1999 using a grounded theory methodology. Prior to this, he practised for several years as a community psychiatric nurse in dementia care, a position he held in North Wales. Since 2006 John has worked at The University of Manchester where he holds a joint position between the University and the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust where he is part of the newly-formed Mental Health Nursing Research Unit. John currently leads the inter-disciplinary Dementia and Ageing Research Team at the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work and was the Chief Investigator on the multi-site ESRC/NIHR Neighbourhoods and Dementia Study [2014-2019]: https://sites.manchester.ac.uk/neighbourhoods-and-dementia/. He was founding and co-editor of the Sage publications journal‘Dementia: the international journal of social research and practice’ (2002-2018) and is currently a Senior Fellow at the NIHR School for Social Care Research in the UK. John has been involved in a number of peer reviewed articles and books in dementia studies over the years and his most recent co-edited book (with Dr Sion Williams, Bangor University) is due to be published towards the end of 2020 and is entitled‘Participatory Case Study Work: Approaches, Authenticity and Application in Ageing Studies’. The text will be available through Routledge as part of Taylor and Francis Books.
