His clinical work and research activities are related mostly with AD and related disorders and currently focus in studying the preclinical stage of the disease and the development of prevention strategies. His MD career was performed at the University of Valencia, his neurology training at the Hospital Clinic de Barcelona and his PhD on Parkinson’s disease was completed at the University of Barcelona. He is currently the Scientific Director of the BarcelonaBeta Brain Research Centre of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation.

He is also a researcher at the IDIBAPS and a member of the European Alzheimer Disease Consortium, the dementia panel for the European Association of Neurology and the Alzheimer Biomarker Standardisation Initiative. Spanish coordinator of the BIOMARKAPD of the Joint Programming on Neurodegenerative Diseases, and partner and co-lead of several Innovative Medicine Initiative consortiums, such as AETIONOMY, EPAD, AMYPAD. He works with the International Working Group and NIA-AA for developing new research criteria also being a member of the AUC for CSF analysis working group. Principal investigator and advisor of multiple pharma companies on the design of clinical trials, he has published over 250 international scientific papers, several books and over 20 book chapters on neurodegenerative diseases. He was part of the board of directors of the Spanish Neurological Society from 2000 to 2002 and coordinated the dementia scientific group from 2006 to 2008. He was awarded with the ICGP international junior investigator award in 2003 and the AD scientific prize of the Spanish Neurological Society in 2010.
