Isadora Lopes Alves (Netherlands)

Dr Lopes Alves started with a background in Medical Physics in Porto Alegre, south of Brazil. In 2015, she was granted a scholarship to pursue her PhD in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the University Medical Centre Groningen, the Netherlands. During her PhD,  she developed new methods for optimized quantitation of brain PET images, which are patient-friendly and less burdensome to the clinical routine, while maintaining high data quality standards. In January 2017, she began her postdoctoral research for the Amyloid Imaging to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease (AMYPAD) project at the VUmc, Amsterdam. In this project, she applies her knowledge of PET imaging with the aim of improving the sensitivity of the technique to detect subtle changes in brain amyloid burden. In addition, she is also the AMYPAD project manager at the VUmc, providing direct support to the project coordinator Prof. Frederik Barkhof.
