Bob Woods has been a practising clinical psychologist in the UK working with older people since 1975, training and working initially in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Subsequently he combined extensive clinical work with older people with academic appointments at the Institute of Psychiatry, London and University College London. Since 1996, he has been Professor of Clinical Psychology of Older People at Bangor University, Wales where he is Director of the Dementia Services Development Centre Wales. He has received awards from the Alzheimer’s Society (2004), the British Psychological Society (2006) and the US Hearthstone Foundation (2011) for his contribution to this field.  He has published 11 books and over 160 journal articles and book chapters. His research has involved the systematic development of evidence-based psychosocial interventions for people with dementia and their care-givers, including cognitive stimulation and reminiscence approaches and he leads a major epidemiological study of cognitive impairment in Wales. He is an Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador, a member of Alzheimer Europe’s Expert Advisory Panel and a board member of INTERDEM, the European network on psychosocial research in dementia care.
