Thomas Klie


Thomas Klie is Professor for public Law at the University of Applied Sciences Freiburg and Professor for Gerontology at the University of Klagenfurt/Vienna. He is director of Center of Civil Society Freiburg (zze) and AGP Social Research.

For a long time he was president of the German Association for Gerontology and Geriatrics.

He published and conducts numerous projects in the field of social gerontology, care, dementia and hospice service.

Prof. Klie is a member of the scientific advisory council of the German Alzheimer Society (Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft e.V. / DAlzG), advisory board member of 'Aktion Demenz'  and author of numerous publications in the field of dementia. He dedicates his research to new forms of  care for people with dementia, to questions of the capacity for consent of people with dementia and their quality of life. Furthermore he deals intensively with ethical and legal questions regarding the care of people with dementia.

Thomas Klie is Deputy Commission Chairman of the  Report on Civic Engagement of the German Federal Government.
