European Parliament Elections 2014

Alzheimer Europe and its member organisations identified the European Parliament elections in 2014 as a key opportunity to contact current Members of the European Parliament and candidates at the elections and ask for their support of the organisations' campaign to make dementia a European priority.

Members of the European Parliament speak out on dementia

Alzheimer Europe contacted Members of the European Parliament and asked them about the key advances for people with dementia and their carers in the current mandate of the European Parliament and to share their priorities for policy action in the coming years. A list of all contributions by MEPs can be found here.

European Dementia Pledge

At its Annual General Meeting in Malta on 10 October 2013, Alzheimer Europe and its member organisations adopted the European Dementia Pledge which they ask candidates at the forthcoming European elections in May 2014 to sign.

The Pledge was a simple commitment by the candidates to support the organisation's campaign to make dementia a European priority and states:

On my election to the European Parliament, I will

  • Join the European Alzheimer’s Alliance comprised of Members of the European Parliament committed to making dementia a European priority and
  • Make myself available to my national Alzheimer’s society and people with dementia from my country.

You can download the European Dementia Pledge.

You can also view the list of signatories.
