Study examines the relationship between delirium and adverse outcomes in people with dementia during hospitalisation

A study found that people with Alzheimer’s disease who experienced delirium during hospitalisation faced higher incidence of adverse outcomes (ie. Cognitive decline, institutionalisation and death).

 

The research was carried out by the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, VA Boston Healthcare System and the Aging Brain Center at Hebrew SeniorLife and reported on at the American Geriatrics Society Annual Scientific Meeting in Maryland, USA.
