New documentary shows positive effects of music on the elderly

A new documentary called "Alive Inside" studies the effects of music therapy on the elderly and examines the quality of life of nursing home patients, especially for those who have a degenerative disease. The film shows the activities of the Music & Memory project, a non-profit organisation that brings personalised music into the lives of the elderly and infirm.
Viewers follow a social worker and a doctor as they hand out iPods to nursing home residents. The iPods are loaded with music from the residents' youth and they have a remarkable effect: people become animated, they sit up and they remember things about their past that were seemingly lost.
