Retro-decorating scheme used in care homes of people with dementia
Friday 26 August 2011
A service provider for people with dementia in the UK (Surrey council) is using the scheme of retro-decorating in its day services and care homes for people with dementia. It is hoped that by people with dementia being surrounded by objects from their past (posters, old-fashioned scented soaps etc) that it may trigger their memories and that by using colour and light effectively that daily tasks may become simpler. Surrey council will be the first council in England to try to integrate retro-decorating techniques into care for people with dementia who also experience learning difficulties.
