Magda Aelvoet is Belgian and currently a consultant for PNEU (the United Nations Environment Programme). She graduated in Germanic Philology and Political and Social Sciences from the Catholic University of Leuven. She was cofounder of the Green Party “Agalev” and since then has been amongst the leaders of the party. Between 1994 and 1999, she was Vice President and President of the green group at the European Parliament and between 1999 and 2002 Minister of Public Health, the Environment and Consumer Protection. She was also a member of the round table “a sustainable project for the future of Europe” which was set up in 2004 at the initiative of the former President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi.
