Professor Vernooij-Dassen is medical sociologist and has a chair on psychosocial aspects of care for frail elderly people. She is principal investigator in the Nijmegen Centre for Evidence Based Practice and director of Nijmegen Alzheimer Centre of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre. She is affiliated to the Scientific Institute for Quality of Healthcare (IQ healthcare) and the primary care departments of this university and to the Kalorama Foundation.
She is co-chair of Interdem, a pan-European research group on INTERventions in DEMentia care. She is honorary visiting professor in “Dementia Studies” of the School of Health Studies at the Bradford University. Her research focuses on improvement of daily care for persons with dementia and their family carers and on the organisation of dementia care. Professor Vernooij-Dassen is involved in several European studies including the EuroCoDe project and in a range of national studies.
