Dementia Ethics Network
Michael Schmieder of “Stiftung Sonnweid” contacted the German Health Ministry with a project proposal aimed at providing an online resource for ethical questions in the care and treatment of people with dementia.
In a series of meeting involving representatives of the German Health Ministry (Dr. Christian Berringer, Ms. Cornelia Reitberger and Dr. Matthias von Schwanenflügel), as well as Michael Schmieder of Stiftung Sonnweid, Sabine Jansen of the German Alzheimer’s association and Jean Georges of Alzheimer Europe, this concept was further developed and discussed at a workshop in Berlin on 1 September 2008.
The workshop attended by some 40 experts gave a warm welcome to the proposal for greater collaboration on dementia ethics.
Thanks to funding from the German Health Ministry, the network became operational in 2009.
