Blankman Cornelis (Kees)
Kees Blankman studied law in Utrecht and wrote his Ph.D. Thesis on guardianship for adults. He is currently an Associate Professor for Family Law at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (Netherlands). He has carried out extensive research on the legal rights of family members providing semi professional care to persons with disabilities. He is the chairperson of the Working Party set up by the Council of Europe to develop a text for a European recommendation regarding continuing powers of attorney and advance directives. He has also actively contributed to the Alzheimer Europe Lawnet projects and has advised the organisation on its position paper on advance directives. Amongst his other many activities, he is a substitute judge at the district Court in Utrecht, an advisor to the National Guardianship Organisation for professional guardians and the Dutch Association of Mentorship by volunteers. He has given numerous lectures at national and international meetings on protecting and representing incapable adults.
