14 May 2015: EWGPWD meets in Brussels

News & Activities

On 14-16 May, the European Working Group of People with Dementia (EWGPWD) had its first meeting of the year in Brussels. All members of the group attended the meeting and welcomed Alv Orheim - a new member from Norway - along with his wife Berit. During the first day of the meeting, there was considerable discussion surrounding the purpose of the EWGPWD and the achievements of the group over the last two years.

The delegates spoke about the relevance of reaching out to countries where the group has no members and about strategies for involving more people with dementia at a national and European level. They also discussed their participation in the annual Alzheimer Europe Conference in Ljubljana (Slovenia) next September. It was agreed that two members of the group would give a speech during the plenary sessions and four members would talk about their experiences of living with dementia in a symposium.

The group also discussed how to give more visibility to the group during the conference.  Dianne and Ana provided information on Alzheimer Europe’s ongoing projects, which the group will be involved in later this year. As part of a project with INTERDEM, Dianne and Ana conducted two consultation groups with people with dementia and their carers about outcomes measures for psychosocial interventions in dementia.
