In 2013, Alzheimer Europe had an audited income of EUR 1,069,753.95 of which EUR 562,089.40 (52.54%) were for the organisation’s core activities (including the organisation’s Dementia Ethics Network and EUR 507,664.55 (47.46%) were for the organisation’s annual conference, corporate affairs activities and other projects.

Funding of core activities (EUR 562,089.40)

In 2013, the core funding of Alzheimer Europe was composed as follows:

  • EUR 220,905.36 (39.30%) from public funding,
  • EUR 119,692 (21.29%) from foundations and other non-profit organisations,
  • EUR 83,605.30 (14.87%) from member organisations,
  • EUR 79,317.33 (14.11%) from deferred income brought forward from the financial year 2012,
  • EUR 43,400 (7.72%) from corporate sources,
  • EUR 3,788.99 (0.67%) from private individuals,
  • EUR 737.33 (0.13%) from bank interest and similar,
  • EUR 10,643.09 (1.89%) from other sources.

Public funding

In 2013, the breakdown of public funding totalling EUR 220,905.36 can be broken down as follows:

  • Alzheimer Europe received EUR 190,000 as an operating grant from the European Commission, EUR 12,491.23 for its participation in the EMIF project, EUR 7,981.54 for its participation in the PharmaCog project, EUR 5,463.44 for its participation in the DECIDE project, and EUR 4,969.15 for its participation in the NILVAD project.

Foundations and organisations

The EUR 119,692 which Alzheimer Europe received in 2013 from foundations and other non-profit organisations can be broken down as follows:

  • EUR 87,000 as direct support from Fondation Alzheimer, Luxembourg,
  • EUR 21,000 in donated time by experts involved in the ethical work and comparison of national dementia strategies of Alzheimer Europe (at EUR 300 per day),
  • EUR 6,692 from Fondation Roger de Spoelberch for the reprinting of the organisation’s Care Manual in Portuguese,
  • EUR 5,000 from Fondation Médéric Alzheimer which supported the European Dementia Ethics Network.

Funding from member organisations

In 2013, the EUR 83,605.30 funding from member organisations can be broken down as follows:

  • EUR 56,305.30 in membership fees and contributions
  • EUR 12,000 from the Luxembourg member organisation by providing rent-free offices to Alzheimer Europe,
  • EUR 15,300 in co-financing from Board members and representatives of member organisations in time donated to the organisation (at EUR 300 per day).

Deferred income

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe was able to contribute EUR 79,317.33 to its core activities which came from deferred income in 2011.

Corporate support

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe received EUR 43,400 from corporate sources as core-funding which can be broken down as follows:

  • EUR 35,000 from GlaxoSmithKline as support to the organisation’s core activities,
  • EUR 5,400 from Newsweaver which provided an e-mail facility free of charge,
  • EUR 3,000 from Mazars which carried out the audit of the organisation’s 2013 accounts free of charge.

Private individuals

In 2013, AE received EUR 3,788.99 from individuals which can be broken down as follows:

  • EUR 2,388.99 in publication sales and
  • EUR 1,400 in donations.

Bank interest and similar

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe had an income of EUR 737.33 from bank interest and similar income.

Other income

In 2013, EUR 10,643.09 came from other sources not mentioned above.

Funding of project activities (EUR 507,664.55)

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe received EUR 507,664.55 for its various projects, including its Annual Conference in St. Julian’s, Malta, a project on good incontinence care and its corporate affairs activities, of which

  • EUR 297,254.63 (58.55%) came from corporate sponsors
  • EUR 115,447 (22.74%) from private individuals,
  • EUR 92,500 (18.22%) from public sources and
  • EUR 2,000 (0.39%) from foundations and other non-profit organisations,
  • EUR 462.92 (0.09%) from other sources.

Corporate support

The corporate support received by Alzheimer Europe for its activities in 2013 (EUR 297,254.63) can be broken down as follows:

  • Lilly contributed EUR 50,000 as a gold sponsor of AE’s corporate programme and AE’s Annual Conference in Malta,
  • SCA Global Hygiene contributed EUR 48,400 as a bronze sponsor of AE’s corporate programme and towards the AE/SCA joint project on good incontinence care,
  • Pfizer contributed EUR 40,000 as a gold sponsor of AE’s corporate programme
  • Janssen contributed EUR 28,210 as a silver sponsor of AE’s corporate programme and towards the participation of AE representatives in the AAIC and ADI International Conferences.
  • Nutricia and Sanofi contributed EUR 20,000 each as silver sponsors of AE’s corporate programme,
  • Piramal provided EUR 15,000 as a bronze sponsor of AE’s corporate programme and AE’s Annual Conference in Malta,
  • Baxter, Lundbeck, Merz and Novartis contributed EUR 10,000 as bronze sponsors of AE’s corporate programme,
  • Avanir contributed EUR 10,000 as a gold sponsor of AE’s Annual Conference in Malta.

In addition, AE received EUR 1,894.63 as travel support and honoraria from GlaxoSmithKline.

Private individuals

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe received EUR 115,447 in registration fees for the Alzheimer Europe Conference in Malta.

Public funding

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe received EUR 80,000 as a grant from the European Commission and EUR 12,500 from the Maltese Ministry of Finance for its Annual Conference in Malta.

Foundations and non-profit organisations

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe received EUR 2,000 from the Malta Tourism Authority for its Annual Conference in Malta.

Other income

In 2013, Alzheimer Europe received 462.92 in income from other sources not mentioned above.
